SUFFIXES 1
(A) -MENT
Normal halved and hooked M:
payment complement
compliment basement oddment
treatment attachment detachment catchment
employment
agreement assessment movement
filament
environment involvement experiment fulfilment
wonderment ointment commandment
testament*
*Omits the middle T
bereavement embarrassment development*
* Optional contraction
Where the -mnt stroke cannot join, use an unvocalised -nt instead
postponement consignment commencement
refinement
resentment
imprisonment enhancement
alignment (aligned)
Compare: liniment
When using -nt for this suffix, a third place vowel immediately
before that syllable remains with the preceding stroke, as there is
an unwritten M sound before it:
accompaniment merriment monument tenement
Care must be taken when writing the -nt for the suffix, so that it
does not look like an Ing stroke, which would have the same meaning
when the verb with -ing is being used as a noun. For extra clarity,
insert the vowel before the Ing stroke:
pavement paving, achievement achieving
confinement confining, announcement
announcing
(B) -MENTAL -MENTALLY -MENTALITY
Disjoin the -mnt stroke for all three of the above suffixes,
although for convenience only one longhand version is shown below:
experimental departmental detrimental
temperamental
fundamental incremental environmental
judgemental
sentimental instrumental monumental
segmental governmental*
* Using the Contraction
Exceptions: mental mentally elemental
Note: elementary
ornament ornamental Note:
ornate

(D) -SHIP
Joined or disjoined Ish, with no vowel sign.
Joined where possible:

horsemanship statesmanship sportsmanship workmanship
Disjoined if a clear angle cannot be obtained:
leadership scholarship apprenticeship
membership
hardship stewardship courtship discipleship dictatorship
These are clearer in full:
fellowship worship apostleship airship/heirship
starship
"ship" (=boat) used as a noun or verb is in full, as a normal
outline:
steamship flagship warship unship reship
If it cannot be joined clearly, rather than disjoin the whole of
"ship", it copies the suffix by using an disjoined Ish,
with no vowel sign:
fire ship, spaceship battleship
(E) -ISM
The default way to write this is with Circle S + M:
tourism
realism
heroism egotism archaism
exorcism (exorcise
and compare exercise) occultism
unionism
cynicism atheism neologism
A few words in -cism use the Ses Circle, where this joins more
easily:
criticism
(criticise)
fanaticism
Catholicism agnosticism
stoicism
(stoic) narcissism (narcissus)
parasitism
After a final hook, Zee + M is used:
perfectionism positivism Americanism Darwinism
organism
objectivism
subjectivism*
* The Optional Contraction is preferable
(F) The outlines below are exceptional in that they cannot
show all the vowels, the missing vowel is shown underlined. This is tolerated in
order to avoid overlong outlines:
Protestant Protestantism despotism
patriotism favouritism
pragmatism
(M) Contractions
advertise-d-ment govern-ed government governor*
*Optional Contraction
vegetarian*
