DOT ING REVISION
(A) Where stroke Ing for the suffix "-ing" at the end would be awkward,
unclear or impossible, a thin dot is written instead:
After thin straight downstrokes P T Chay, Downward Hay:

stopping
seeping eating sitting stating

reinstating watering existing
insisting resisting

persisting itching
stitching attaching scratching

matching fetching
potting
repeating spitting toting

treating hesitating
frustrating rotating cheating
(B) After Ar and the reversed FR VR FL VL strokes:

airing erring pairing boring tearing

mooring soaring storing curing glaring

freeing
covering hovering raffling

rivalling unravelling grovelling
snivelling

Note:
earring
(C) After various final attachments where stroke Ing cannot join:

dispensing bouncing tensing entrancing* dancing
chancing
* The verb is pronounced with stress
on the second syllable

posting boasting costing fasting misting

nesting assisting plastering clustering
mastering

administering upholstering
shining freshening caving grieving

running burning learning wandering
wintering

renting winning winding honing hunting roofing

rafting weaving wafting
mentioning tensioning

cautioning cushioning
positioning requisitioning
Ing joins well in these:

testing trusting jesting suggesting
fashioning motioning
(D) Dot Ing is not used medially, use stroke Ing for the
suffix "-ingly":

insultingly irritatingly temptingly acceptingly

frustratingly hesitatingly unhesitatingly
interestingly

excitingly unsuspectingly admiringly
sparingly
(E) After Ard and Ld strokes:

hoarding boarding affording discarding
stewarding

balding folding yielding moulding withholding

Note: hold holding
(F) After a joined diphthong for the
convenience of keeping the outline unchanged:

ploughing/plowing* pouting sprouting powdering touting doubting

spewing*
computing disputing stewing tutoring
hewing*
feuding
* Note that these do not change to a
triphone, as the I sound is part of the Dot Ing, see Section J below
(G) Stroke Ing joins well in these, and the diphthong becomes a triphone:

vowing
viewing suing issuing queuing

barbecuing arguing renewing valuing

mewing
imbuing denying bowing
(H) Ing on Short Forms

being doing going having wishing nearing

influencing surprising owning calling schooling

speaking telling chairing cheering balancing
wording trading
A short form or contraction, whose outline does not contain the consonant(s) immediately preceding the "-ing", uses Dot Ing, even
though stroke Ing might join well. This prevents misreading as a
full outline for some other word:

coming comings giving misgivings

subjecting believing delivering signifying
inscribing

thanking thinking
informing performing manufacturing

expecting inspecting representing practising remarking
Also Dot Ing on these for clarity:

remembering numbering compare
bring
Exceptions, as these are considered distinctive enough:

distinguishing extinguishing relinquishing
characterising
(I) Dot Ing is used fter a halved or doubled stroke where, if stroke Ing were used,
there would be insufficient angle to show up the different lengths:

bedding breeding bleeding debating

deeding dreading
budgeting fidgeting

meeting admitting remitting promoting
permitting

spattering spluttering motoring muttering/mothering simpering
ordering
(J) As the Dot Ing includes the I sound, a vowel immediately
before the "ing" sound does not change to a diphone:

pawing paying praying spraying supplying staying

straying tying trying chewing
jawing hoeing
(K) Dot Ing is not used where it is not a suffix (a suffix will always
form a separate syllable):

pang ping tongue spring string strong
(L) Names generally use a stroke Ing, as they need fuller outlines for
clarity, especially as context cannot help with a name:

Tring Tooting Kettering Hutchings Harding Boeing

But Spalding Fielding
(M) Dash Ings
Where Dot Ing is used for -ing, change to a dash for plural "-ings"
written at a right angle to the foot of the stroke:

wrappings sweepings toppings trappings

groupings
helpings droppings scrapings

battings outings scratchings castings boastings

moorings meetings stirrings
cleansings
mutterings
This cannot be mistaken for an intervening third place dash vowel sign, as those
are written through the end of the stroke:

samplings whirlpool
There are very few outlines that have a third place intervening
dash.
(N) Contractions

become welcome income prospect whatever whenever
Derivatives/Related
Those below with "-ing" are using proximity to represent the
"com" syllable:

becoming becomingly became, to become*
* Based on the short form phrase "to be"

welcoming
welcomingly welcomed
overcoming shortcoming

incoming incomer
(compare: newcomer)

prospective
prospecting prospector
